Service Summary

Chief Warrant Officer Joel Langley was born in London, Ontario, on December 19, 1965. Interested in military service from an early age, he joined Sea Cadets in 1978 and later served in the Reserve Force before enrolling in the Canadian Armed Forces in January 1986.

He completed artillery training at CFB Shilo in 1986.

Military Career

Joel first served with the Airborne Regiment and Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, including a posting to CFB Lahr, Germany.

In 1998, he occupationally transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Aerospace Control Operator. His subsequent postings included:

  • 22 Wing North Bay (NORAD operations)

  • Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Control Operations

  • Elmendorf AFB, Alaska (E-3 AWACS)

  • 1 Canadian Air Division Winnipeg

  • Tinker AFB, Oklahoma (AWACS Canadian Detachment)

  • Bagotville

  • 4 Mission Support Squadron, CFB Cold Lake

He accumulated over 1,250 flying hours aboard the E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft.

Joel deployed on numerous operations, including:

  • Former Yugoslavia

  • Winnipeg Floods

  • Vancouver Winter Olympics

  • Toronto G8/G20

  • Afghanistan

  • Curaçao Counter-Drug Operations

  • Domestic disaster response operations

He retired on July 5, 2022, with more than 37 years of service.

Post-Service Life

Following retirement, Joel and his wife Shauna settled in the Minnedosa area, continuing their commitment to veterans and community service.
