Service Summary

Harry Leonard Mansfield Sharpe was raised on the family farm southeast of Minnedosa in the Hazelwood District. He was the son of Manfred and Agda (Larson) Sharpe.

Following his school years and farm work, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Wartime Experience

Harry’s wartime postings included:

  • Yorkton, Saskatchewan

  • Coal Harbour, British Columbia

  • Port Hardy, British Columbia

  • Nanaimo, British Columbia

  • Vancouver, British Columbia

After training, he instructed others in:

  • Chemical warfare defence

  • Hand-to-hand combat

These roles prepared Canadian personnel for possible enemy attack and close combat situations.

Post-Service Life

After discharge, Harry returned to farming.

He married Marion Clark, daughter of Nelson and Winnie Clark, and together they raised three children:

  • Martin

  • Fred

  • Carol

He was remembered as a dedicated family man and hardworking farmer.

Harry passed away at home on Christmas Day, 1978, and was buried in the family plot at Smoland Cemetery.
