Service Summary

John “Jack” Daniel Rudy enlisted in October 1939 at the age of 27 while employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway.

He first served as a cook in Yorkton Armouries before postings to Dundurn, Saskatchewan, New Westminster, Nanaimo, Petawawa, and later overseas.

Wartime Experience

Jack sailed overseas in July 1942 and served in Britain before joining the 2nd Anti-Aircraft Regiment.

He landed in France on D-Day plus six and advanced through:

  • Caen

  • Germany (Goch area)

  • Holland

  • Nijmegen

He later served in a repatriation station in Holland before returning to Canada aboard the Queen Elizabeth.

He was discharged on February 20, 1946, with the rank of Corporal.

Post-Service Life

Jack returned to the Canadian Pacific Railway and later worked in Brandon before retiring in Minnedosa.

He married Bertha Ritchie in 1971.

After railway retirement, he also worked with Agristeel and as caretaker for local banks.

Jack was a Life Member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #138.

He passed away September 2, 1994, and is interred in Minnedosa Cemetery.
