Service Summary

Frederick Nelson Richards enlisted with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and completed training at Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg and Camp Shilo, Manitoba.

Wartime Experience

Fred served overseas from December 1942 until December 1945.

His wartime service included postings in:

  • England

  • Italy

  • France

  • Holland

  • Germany

He served through several major campaigns of the European war before returning home after victory.

Post-Service Life

Following discharge, Fred married Mabel Bertram on April 20, 1946.

They raised four children: Charlie, Irene, Janice, and Jim.

Fred farmed in the Clanwilliam district until his passing in May 1966.

He was laid to rest in Clanwilliam Cemetery.
