Service Summary
Albert Ronald McTavish enlisted on December 8, 1942, at Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg at the age of 25 while working on the family farm in the Basswood area.
He completed training in Winnipeg and Camp Shilo.
Wartime Experience
Ronald trained with rifles, Bren guns, and infantry operations but was later medically downgraded due to stomach ulcers and removed from the overseas draft.
He remained in Canada and was discharged in September 1944.
Post-Service Life
Ronald returned to farming and in 1951 married Jean Walker of Basswood.
They farmed until retirement in 1978, later moving to Minnedosa, where they raised six children.
He became a Life Member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #138.
