Service Summary
Donald J. McTavish was born July 25, 1913, in Winnipeg and later settled with his family in the Rapid City area, where he farmed.
He enlisted for wartime service with Lord Strathcona’s Horse.
Wartime Experience
Donald served in Italy with the Canadian Armoured Corps.
On September 24, 1944, at the age of 31, he was killed in action when his Algonquin II tank was destroyed in combat.
Commemoration
Donald is buried at Cesena War Cemetery, Italy.
McTavish Bay on Nueltin Lake, Manitoba, was named in his honour in 1995.
