Service Summary
Murray Waine Mansell joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in September 1955 and completed basic training at St. Jean, Quebec. He later attended photography training at Camp Borden before being posted to Rockcliffe, where he assisted in aerial mapping operations across Canada.
Military Career
Waine married Caroline Dunn in 1959.
In 1960, he was posted to Cold Lake, Alberta, where he worked in aerial photography and later at Primrose Lake maintaining photo-theodolite equipment. He was promoted to Master Corporal and placed in charge of technical maintenance operations.
During ten years in Cold Lake, Waine was heavily involved in community recreation, maintaining rinks and baseball diamonds while coaching hockey and Little League baseball.
In 1970, he returned to Rockcliffe, overseeing slides and photographic imaging systems.
Promoted to Sergeant in 1974, he was posted to Baden-Soellingen, Germany, where he worked in radar projection and colour photography.
In 1978, Waine returned again to Rockcliffe, training others in attaché photography and later taking charge of photographic equipment at DASP.
He retired from military service in 1985 and later retired fully in 1992 as a Master Warrant Officer.
Post-Service Life
Waine remained known for his dedication to family, military professionalism, mentorship, and community service.
