Service Summary

Allan James Lefurgey was born in the Bethany district to John and Margaret Lefurgey. After the death of his father when Allan was four years old, the family moved to Minnedosa. He enlisted with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in December 1942.

Wartime Experience

Allan trained in Winnipeg and Camp Shilo before transferring to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders for additional training in Ontario and Nova Scotia.

He later deployed overseas to England and then to Belgium.

After briefly being hospitalized in October 1944 with a hand injury, Allan returned to active duty. Shortly afterward, he was killed by enemy shellfire later that same month.

Commemoration

Allan’s daughter, Hughene Alison Lefurgey, was born in December 1943 and was only ten months old when her father was killed in action.
