Service Summary

Wilfred Walter Arthur Josland enlisted in June 1941 alongside his friend Rudy Hendrickson of Clanwilliam. Both travelled to Winnipeg together to join the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and were assigned to the 4th Canadian Armoured Division.

He completed initial training in Winnipeg before further instruction in Vancouver.

Wartime Experience

Arthur deployed overseas in August 1942 and saw active service in Italy from February 1943 onward.

In early December 1944, he wrote home to wish friends and family a Merry Christmas, noting he was doing well.

Shortly afterward, on December 22, 1944, Arthur was killed in action in Italy at the age of 23.

Commemoration

Arthur is remembered with honour among those who gave their lives in service during the Italian Campaign.
