Service Summary

Gordon Ingaldson joined the 12th Manitoba Dragoons in Minnedosa in May 1941 at the age of 24 while working as a butter maker for the People’s Co-op Creamery.

He trained at Camp Shilo and Camp Borden, rising through the ranks to Sergeant Major before receiving officer training and earning his commission as 1st Lieutenant.

Wartime Experience

Following Pearl Harbor, Gordon’s regiment was sent to Victoria, British Columbia, for coastal defence and further training, then later to Debert, Nova Scotia.

He finally deployed overseas aboard the Queen Mary in late 1943 and rejoined the Dragoons in England as Transport Officer.

Later transferred to the Royal Canadian Dragoons, he served through Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, and Holland until the end of the war.

Following victory, Gordon assisted in the demobilization process at Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg.

Post-Service Life

Returning to Minnedosa, Gordon resumed work at the Creamery before beginning a 33-year career with the Canadian Pacific Railway as a brakeman and conductor.

He also farmed from 1960 until retirement and remained active in the Masonic Lodge and Legion, serving as a Life Member of Branch #138.

He and wife Evelyn raised three children.
