Service Summary

Edward Boaz Howe, known as Eddy, was born and educated in Minnedosa, Manitoba, the son of First World War veteran Edward John Howe and Lillian (Fitzgerald) Howe. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1940 at the age of 17, shortly after leaving school.

Wartime Experience

Eddy served in Halifax aboard HMCS Assiniboine, in Toronto, and later in Newfoundland aboard HMCS Agassiz. He completed a Petty Officer course in Montreal and later served on HMCS Royal Mount in Bermuda.

He also performed convoy duty from Londonderry, Ireland, helping protect Allied shipping during the Battle of the Atlantic.

Later in the war, he was stationed at Sydney, Australia, preparing for operations against Japan. Following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, those plans were cancelled and Eddy was demobilized.

Post-Service Life

After the war, Eddy joined the Canadian Pacific Railway and worked as a Locomotive Engineer for fifty years.

He later settled in Thunder Bay, Ontario, with his wife Larana (Delucca). Together they raised one daughter and two sons.

He was a Legion member of Branch #6 in Thunder Bay.
