Service Summary

Harvey Winford Horner enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in April 1943 in Winnipeg. He completed Manning Depot training in Brandon and instructional training in Regina.

He was selected for pilot training.

Wartime Experience

Harvey attended Elementary Flying School at Davidson, Saskatchewan, where he trained on Fairchild Cornell aircraft before advancing to No. 10 Service Flying Training School in Dauphin.

There he flew twin-engine Cessna Cranes and Avro Ansons while completing extensive day, night, instrument, and navigation training.

By October 1944, Harvey had logged nearly 292 flying hours. However, by then trained pilots exceeded demand, and his overseas draft was cancelled.

He was released from active service in January 1945.

Post-Service Life

Harvey worked forty years with the Canadian Pacific Railway, retiring in 1985.

He married Mary in 1953, and together they raised four children while farming in the Odanah Municipality.
