Service Summary

Boyd Grant was born on the family farm in the Cameron District and enlisted in March 1944 at age 18. He completed training at Fort Garry and Camp Shilo before transferring to the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals.

Wartime Experience

Boyd joined the newly formed No. 1 Canadian Special Wireless Group, tasked with monitoring Japanese coded transmissions.

He sailed to New Guinea, later serving in Brisbane and Darwin, Australia. The work of the unit remained highly secretive and was only fully appreciated years later.

He returned to Canada in 1946.

Post-Service Life

Boyd returned to farming and later pursued education in Agriculture at the University of Manitoba.

He held careers in land management, Farm Credit, insurance, and appraisal work before returning to farming in 1975.

He and his wife Amy raised four children.
