Raymond Delmage

Service Summary

Raymond Delmage enlisted in 1941 alongside his brother and trained at Camp Borden before joining the 4th Canadian Armoured Division.

Wartime Experience

Ray served as a tank transporter during the Italian campaign, enduring harsh combat conditions. He contracted malaria and later suffered severe wounds, lying exposed for 48 hours before rescue.

His injuries required extensive surgery and long-term hospitalization. He was eventually returned to Canada after nearly a year of recovery.

Post-Service Life

Ray returned to farming and married Shirley McPherson in 1946. He later worked as a mechanic and held additional jobs to support his family.

He passed away in 1970 at the age of 49.
