Thomas Neil Delgaty

Service Summary

Thomas Neil Delgaty enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 29, 1941, at age 19. He trained at multiple locations across Canada, eventually specializing as an aircraft instrument repairer.

Wartime Experience

Tom served with 420 Squadron and later as part of No. 331 RCAF Wing, supporting bombing operations in North Africa and Italy. He endured extreme desert conditions, including intense heat, disease, and constant operational pressure.

He contributed to preparations for the Allied invasion of Sicily and supported ongoing operations across the Mediterranean theatre. His work maintaining aircraft instruments was critical, as even minor errors could cost lives.

Post-Service Life

After returning to Canada, Tom resumed civilian life, later becoming a minister in the United Church of Canada. He remained deeply involved in the Legion, serving as Padre and Historian.

He also played a key role in documenting veterans’ experiences, helping preserve the stories of those who served.
