Service Summary
Oscar Willis “Hap” Congdon enlisted in 1940 at the age of 20 and trained as an air observer and navigator.
Wartime Experience
Hap flew multiple operational missions over enemy territory in England, North Africa, and Italy. He later supported underground operations by delivering supplies and personnel.
In April 1944, after completing a mission over occupied Poland, his aircraft ran out of fuel. The crew bailed out, and Hap was injured upon landing and captured by German forces. He remained a prisoner of war until liberation in May 1945.
Post-Service Life
Following his return to Canada, Hap settled into farming and community life.
