Service Summary
Thomas James Clark enlisted in 1951 at the age of 18 at Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg. He trained as a driver mechanic before being deployed overseas to Korea.
Wartime Experience
Jim served with the 81st Field Regiment (later 4th RCHA) as a driver mechanic, supporting artillery operations for United Nations forces during the Korean War.
He later reflected that his service as a young soldier in Korea was one of the most significant and formative experiences of his life.
Post-Service Life
Jim returned to Canada in 1954 and was discharged shortly after. He married Doreen Shanks in 1956, and they raised three children.
He worked as an autobody mechanic and later in dealership sales management before working with the Manitoba Provincial Government until his retirement.
