David Robert Blake

Sergeant (Navigator), Royal Canadian Air Force

Service Summary

David Robert Blake enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in August 1943. He completed training in navigation, earning his wings and promotion to Sergeant Navigator after graduating from Central Navigation School in Rivers, Manitoba.

Wartime Experience

David trained extensively on Anson aircraft and prepared for overseas service. Although he volunteered for Pacific operations and underwent jungle and commando training, the war ended before he was deployed into combat.

Post-Service Life

After discharge in December 1945, David returned to his civilian career with the Royal Bank. He married Gwen in 1951, and together they raised five children.

He later served as MLA for Minnedosa from 1971 to 1988 and was an active community leader, including serving as President of the Minnedosa Legion Branch #138.
