Service Summary

Ernest Frank Bayes enlisted in February 1943 and completed training in Manitoba and Nova Scotia before deploying overseas later that year.

Wartime Experience

Ernest served in Italy, participating in major engagements including the breaking of the Hitler Line. He was seriously wounded in September 1944 but returned to duty after recovery.

He later advanced through Belgium and Germany as Allied forces pushed toward victory in Europe.

Post-Service Life

After his discharge in November 1945, Ernest returned to farming. He married Doris Nordene in 1946, and together they raised five children.

Later settling in Minnedosa, he remained active in the Legion and community life.
